SKEPTICAL SIDE HUSTLE
Updated: Oct 18, 2018
Do you have a side hustle? It seems like these days, almost every one does. While I used to be overwhelmed by the thought of adding more to my plate. Once I put my pride aside, I quickly learned that having a little something on the side could possibly be the answer to several problems I had recently encountered. On this week’s addition of the #humpdayhustle I want to share more about my side hustle with all of you. First, a little back story:
As a wellness professional, I have been approached by numerous people affiliated with one of the several multilevel marketing companies selling supplements, vitamins, protein powders, energy drinks, waist trainers—you name it. For many years, I politely declined these offers for a few reasons. The main reason however, was largely due to the fact that none of the companies met my standards. What exactly were in these products? Where's the ingredient list? Are the claims these companies are making supported by actual clinical research? Whenever I searched for these answers, I failed to find what I was looking for. I will also be the first to admit that I was extremely skeptical of any sort of MLM company, as many of you might be.
Fast forward a few months to a phone call with my mom. She was passionately sharing her experience at a recent “Salad in a Jar” party, new fruit, veggie, and berry capsules she was taking, and a new business venture she recently started. I didn’t think too much of this until a few weeks later when my mom mentioned she was noticing huge differences in her arthritis and muscle soreness after tough workouts that used to leave her hobbling around for a few days. She convinced me to talk more with her and that’s when she said the magic words: clinical research. Clinical research that was conducted by third party institutes—and not just any institutions. Places like Georgetown, Yale, and Vanderbilt (just to name a few just here in the U.S.) have all held randomized, placebo controlled, double blind, human clinical trials on this product. Now to some of you those might just sound like a bunch of words, but to me, they meant everything.
I decided to put my pride aside, ordered the product, and signed up as a rep.
At the time this opportunity entered my life, there was a lot going on. I was struggling with anxiety and over all was not in a great place. In addition, I had just moved into a larger apartment, adopted a furry friend, and was adjusting to a new full-time job. With this, came some unexpected (and also self-inflected) debt. I really wasn’t in a position to take on another monthly payment, even though the products I ordered came to less than $50. But something about the passion in my mom's voice convinced me that my body needed this stuff. There was also an opportunity to make commission off my own orders which appealed to me, even though I was still very skeptic.
What happened when I started taking the products blew my mind. Things I had just accepted about myself began to change. The massive hormonal pimples every month that left scars and dark spots on my face? Gone. My nails that used to break even with shellac on? Stronger and longer than ever. Annoying bloat after every meal (seriously, every. single. meal. Even healthy stuff). No more! I remember thinking to myself, “If I am seeing all these changes on the outside, there must be pretty amazing stuff going on inside!”
I’ve been using these products for almost a year now and can honestly say I will never go a day without. I’ve added in more of their whole food based products, non-dairy, vegan protein powder and have even participated in a 10-day cleanse called Shred10 that brought on some pretty amazing results. I believe in these products so much that I can’t help but share them with others—and that says a lot coming from a once extreme skeptic.
My first ever Shred10 group is starting on Monday, November 5. Check back in on Friday and learn how you can participate for just $35/month (discounted nearly 70%!). This is an offer you won’t want to miss.
That's all for now, stay smpl.
